DescriptionThe project will enable Togo to meet its reporting obligations under the Framework Convention on Climate Change, leading to their National Communication as required under Article 12.
Implementation StatusTogo submitted its First National Communication on 20 December 2001. Phase II project was approved by the CEO of GEF on 27 October 2000. On the National Needs Assessment of Technology findings were completed through a 3- day Workshop was held 28 to 30 May 2002 on Technology transfer resulting in the identification of the sectors (Energy losses, Agriculture and Forestry; ); the identification of Three Working groups; the selection strategies for the transfer of technologies; Three consultants were hired to do research on technologies to reduce the Greenhouse Gas emissions for three sectors: The findings of the consultants is included in a combined report. The review of the Methodology for data-gathering facilitated the possibility of reducing the maximum uncertainties especially to mitigate the absence of data supporting the use of the calculations recommended by IPCC methodology on sectors:: Waste; Energy, Agriculture, Ground and Forestry; Coastal Zone; and Water Resources. Education and Public Awareness, three workshops workshops were organized; Concepts of Climate Changes for the Journalists- 23 August, 2002; Concepts of Changes for NGOs on the management of the environment - 24 to 25 October 2002; Workshop for Teachers of Natural science and of Histo-Géo of 2nd and 3rd Degree of Togo, the 4 to 5 November 2002; a resulting training manual on the Concepts of Changes Climatic was prepared. This recommendation was also sent to the GTZ and Francophonie. The report of the various seminars of Training, Education and Public Awareness is also available. The Networks of Systematic Observation: The activities related to the evaluation of institutional and human capacities of the country in the management of the three observation networks of observation are: - Network of Meteorological observation, Hydrological Observation Network, Océanologique Observation Network. Studies of these three networks required site visits by UNDP National Strategy: . The National Strategies account the fact the response to the UNFCCC was the object of an adoption. This constituted chapter 5 of the Initial National Communication of the Togo. This work was realized by the Corporation the African Water and Environment. The combined document was sent to the different national institutions and is proposed National Validation as soon as all the recommendations and proposals are integrated . (pm Feb.03)
