Nagoya, Japan Date: October 20th, 2010

 

On the occasion of the Convention of Biological Diversity COP10 taking place in Nagoya, Japan the GEF Small Grants Programme launched a catalogue of biodiversity-based products from SGP’s Latin American & Caribbean portfolio which demonstrates the linkage between the sustainable use of biodiversity, community empowerment and poverty reduction.

Overlooked relationship between human welfare, biodiversity proves to be great investment

Starting in October and running for two weeks, the 2010 Commonwealth Games will be held in Delhi. Several million people are expected to attend the largest multi-sport event conducted to date in India, with even more observing through other media sources. Organizers of the games are committed to hosting a sustainable event, which included taking the environment into consideration when constructing and renovating venues.

On September 20th, 2010 at the event "Biodiversity, Climate Change and MDG Achievement – Scaling Up Local Solutions” held at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, UNDP announced the winners of the Equator Prize 2010.

The event was organized on the occasion of the 2010 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Review Summit of the United Nations General Assembly.
