Washington DC, November 21, 2011 - Last week, Dr. Francisco Barnes, President, and Dr. Julia Martinez, Coordinator of the Climate Change Program, of the National Institute of Ecology of Mexico (INE) met with the GEF CEO Monique Barbut and the GEF Climate Mitigation and Adaptation personnel to explore potential partnerships to facilitate climate technology transfer.
In response to UNFCCC guidance embedded in the Poznan Strategic Program on Technology Transfer and in the Cancun Agreements on the establishment of the Technology Mechanism, the GEF is continuing its efforts in supporting demand-driven initiatives on this important subject. INE is the lead governmental think tank on scientific and technical environmental research in Mexico, responsible for conducting the National Communications, as well as national and state level climate change studies, projections, and vulnerability and risks assessments.
