The GEF-8 Corporate Scorecard is a comprehensive report on the performance of the Global Environment Facility during the GEF-8 period. In particular, the Scorecard reports on the progress made toward the achievement of the GEF-8 targets. It also looks at how the GEF is utilizing resources available for its eighth replenishment cycle and making progress in the implementation of key policies.

The Scorecard is published twice a year; this issue includes all projects approved from July 2022 to date, including the December 2024 work program.

To enhance transparency and accountability, this Scorecard edition features an interactive tool that enables users to explore each result area by clicking to view indicator definitions, units of measure, GEF-8 targets, and the latest progress updates.

Conserving and Sustainably Using Biodiversity

Biodiversity is crucial to the future of all life on the planet and is also the foundation for the ecosystem goods and services that enable human societies to thrive. Improving the conservation, sustainable use, and restoration of natural ecosystems underpins the work of the GEF partnership to enhance biodiversity.

Sustainably Managing and Restoring Land

Land creates goods and services that provide a foundation for sustainable livelihoods. Yet pressure on global land resources threatens ecosystems. The GEF supports land restoration, combats land degradation and desertification, and mitigates the effects of drought through sustainable land management efforts.

Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is essential to tackling climate change and unlocking environmental gains. This means implementing programs to limit emissions in the energy, construction and transport sectors. It also means supporting nature-based solutions that bolster carbon stocks inland and in coastal areas.

Strengthening Transboundary Water Management

Healthy marine and freshwater ecosystems are critical to sustaining life on earth. The GEF works to preserve both marine and freshwater ecosystems through promoting transboundary collaboration, governance, and strategic investments.

Reducing Chemicals and Waste

When used improperly or disposed of unsafely, chemicals pose significant risks for both the environment and human health. The GEF supports policies targeting the eradication of hazardous chemicals from industrial use, products, and waste. It also helps mitigate harmful persistent organic pollutants and mercury emissions.
