Involving National Legislators in International Environmental Decision-making through Participation in the Preparations for the World Summit on Sustainable Development Proceedings and the Second GEF Assembly

Project Summary

In close collaboration with the GLOBE International, the proposed project is expected to strengthen support at the national level to address global environmental issues by providing opportunities for key southern legislators to engage in dialogue with northern legislative leaders. Under the project, meetings will be organized in conjunction with the events leading up to and including the World Summit on Sustainable Development as well as the Second GEF Assembly, to present lessons learned and best practices of the GEF’s activities to promote successful ways of addressing major environmental challenges at the national level.Involving legislative leaders as attendees of meetings and a larger legislative audience through information publications, and an interactive internet-based network will help strengthen the response of national governments to the outcomes of the WSSD and will also strengthen support for the GEF as key components of addressing critical environmental challenges.
