Capacity Building for the Implementation of the National Biosafety Framework
Project Summary
The overall objective of the project is to implement in Tunisia, by 2008, a workable, responsive and transparent NBF, in line with the national development priorities, the Cartagena Protocol and other international obligations. The project will provide the necessary financial and technical assistance to:- Transform Tunisian National Biosafety Framework to a legally binding national biosafety regulatory regime through the enactment of Laws, and drafting of implementing regulations, decrees, orders;- Prepare specific training guides and manuals;- Train decision makers, scientists, administrative and technical staff on legal, scientific and technical matters;·- Enhance existing institutional facilities and infrastructures to undertake GMO detection and monitoring activities;·- Set up a mechanism for monitoring of enforcement;-·Strengthen channels for communication and information dissemination nationally, as well as through the Biosafety Clearing House (BCH);·- Promote public awareness and participation
