Demonstration of Sustainable Management of Coral Reef Resources in the Coastal Waters of Ninh Hai District, Ninh Thuan Province, Viet Nam
Project Summary
The proposed project is one of the demonstration projects developed under the framework of the UNEP/GEF project entitled Reversing Environmental Degradation Trends in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand. 9. Furthermore, this proposed project aims to demonstrate a set of stress reduction measures effective at a regionally significant coral reef habitat in Ninh Hai, including: Introducing a cross-sectoral and participatory management scheme, an integrated management plan, guidelines and demarcation; establishing pilot projects on environmentally sustainable income generation options such as sustainable aquaculture and eco-tourism; facilitating community participation to decision making and implementation; and promoting awareness raising and capacity building among relevant stakeholders at all levels.The proposed project addresses the implementation of policy/legal/institutional reforms and stress-reducing measures as a contribution to the implementation of the inter-governmentally approved draft SAP for the South China Sea. These measures aim to achieve some identified quantifiable stress reduction targets.
