Geothermal Power Generation Program
Project Summary
The Global Environment Objective (GEO) is to promote renewable (geothermal) energy and reduce GHG emissions in Djibouti. Project Development Objective: The more specific project development objective is to assess the commercial viability of the geothermal resource in Fiale Caldera (located in the Lake Assal region). Achieving this objective could lead to unlocking Djibouti’s geothermal potential – something that would help reduce domestic electricity generation costs, increase the country’s energy security of supply and foster private sector participation in the energy sector.
