Oreste Pedro Maia Andrade Jr, a Brazilian national, joined the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in December 2010, having since then conducted partnership building, country relations, knowledge management, and performance evaluation, among other functions. Prior to his current position, Oreste worked for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights conducting external relations with UN System Agencies to promote humanitarian standards in natural disasters. Oreste also worked for the Brazilian Committee of the UN Environment Programme conducting political liaison with governmental and non-governmental agencies. At the regional level, Oreste had experiences with political and diplomatic affairs at the Organization of American States and the Brazilian Embassy to Argentina. Oreste holds a Master in International Affairs from the Graduate Institute of Geneva, a Post-Graduate Specialization in Environmental Economics from Harvard University, a Specialization in Environmental Management from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, an MBA in International Affairs from Getulio Vargas Foundation, and a Bachelor in International Relations with Minor in Law.
