Roland, a Finnish national joined the Adaptation Cluster of the Climate and Chemicals team as a Junior Professional Officer.
Prior to joining the GEF, Roland worked for the Environment and Climate Division of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), taking part in core policy work, background analysis and portfolio management as well as gaining exposure to a number of GEF projects. Roland has also interned for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Roland holds a Master of Social Sciences (M.Soc.Sc.) from the University of Helsinki, where he majored in development studies. During most part of his MA studies Roland was engaged in an international research project exploring the opportunities and constraints of participatory forest management in climate change mitigation and adaptation. In addition to adaptation, Roland has a keen interest in REDD-plus, community-based natural resource management, and common-pool resources.
