This project mainstreams biodiversity conservation across the productive sectors in the sand mining value chain, in line with CBD COP decisions 14/3 and 16/13 and GBFF programming directions, in Liberia and The Gambia. Further, building on the non prescriptive proposals from countries that resulted from regional and global consultations mandated by UNEA 5/12, the project uses the sand value chain as a strategic entry point to address threats like habitat loss, erosion, and pollution. The interventions will be done through nature-based solutions, inclusive governance and a source-to-sea approach that integrates biodiversity into policies, market incentives and regulations, and financial mechanisms.
