At PDF-A: The overall objective of this project is to: develop the framework for the sustainable management and use of the Nubian Aquifer System in parts of Chad, Egypt, Libya and Sudan.The project will have four immediate objectives:1.Expand, and consolidate the technical and scientific knowledge base regarding the Nubian Aquifer system including the development of an appropriate groundwater model . 2.Develop and strengthen a joint Nubian Aquifer Management Framework that can guide the sustainable use of this important water resource and build transboundary cooperation. 3.Develop links and networks between international and national organisations to ensure cooperation, to consolidate efforts and to assure complementarity . 4. Initiate an appropriate public participation and communication plan to inform citizens in the region about the Nubian Aquifer System. MSP submission: The Long-term Goal of the project is to establish a rational and equitable management of the NSAS for sustainable socio-economic development and the protection of biodiversity and land resources. To achieve this goal, the Immediate Objectives of this MSP project are as follows: i.Prepare and agree on a Shared Aquifer Diagnostic Analysis (SADA) to jointly identify, understand and reach agreement on the priority issues, threats and root causes of the NSAS; ii.Address and fill key methodological, data and capacity gaps needed for strategic planning decisions, using appropriate technical approaches with a focus on isotope techniques and applications under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA); iii.Prepare a Strategic Action Programme (SAP) to outline the necessary legal, policy and institutional reforms needed to address the priority threats and their root causes as identified in the SADA for the NSAS; iv.Establish an agreed legal and institutional mechanism towards a NSAS convention for joint four-partite management and rational use of the shared NSAS System.
