This regional intervention aims to support all eligible CEIT in their efforts to achieve compliance with the Copenhagen Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, specifically the agreed control schedule for Methylbromide (MBr). Country level activities to identify and phase out MBr consumption by the Protocol deadlines will be prepared by UNEP and UNDP in partnership with the recipient countries, and in close consultation with the Implementation Committee of the Montreal Protocol Parties. Commencement of country level project implementation activities will be subject to effectiveness of the Copenhagen Amendment. March 25, 2004 (LG) The project seeks to enable the 7 participating countries to meet compliance with the control measure of the Montreal Protocol for Methyl Bromide (MB). This control measure requires 100% phase out of MB - excluding quarantine and pre-shipment - by January 1, 2005, through the urgent implementation of sectoral phase-out plans. The project would phase-out about 167 metric tons of MB used each year for soil fumigation, stored products, and structures, and will also aim to reduce the quantity of MB used for quarantine and pre-shipment treatments. In the long run, the project aims to establish non-chemical IPM based alternatives for fumigation. X
