The overall goal of the project is that by 2009 Egypt has a workable and transparent national biosafety framework, in line with its national development priorities and international obligations. The inmediate objectives are to assit Egypt to: - have a fully functional and responsive regulatory regime in line with CP and national needs - have a functional national system for handling requests, performing risk assessment, decision-making, performing administrative tasks, handling, storing and exchanging information in line with the BCH requirements - have a functional national system for follow-up, namely monitoring of environmental effects and enforcement - have a functional national system for public awareness, education, participation and access to information
