The proposed project is one of the demonstration projects developed under the framework of the UNEP/GEF project entitled Reversing Environmental Degradation Trends in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand. 9. Furthermore, this proposed project aims to demonstrate a set of stress reduction measures effective at a regionally significant coral reef habitat in Ninh Hai, including: Introducing a cross-sectoral and participatory management scheme, an integrated management plan, guidelines and demarcation; establishing pilot projects on environmentally sustainable income generation options such as sustainable aquaculture and eco-tourism; facilitating community participation to decision making and implementation; and promoting awareness raising and capacity building among relevant stakeholders at all levels. The proposed project addresses the implementation of policy/legal/institutional reforms and stress-reducing measures as a contribution to the implementation of the inter-governmentally approved draft SAP for the South China Sea. These measures aim to achieve some identified quantifiable stress reduction targets.
