Under the GEF alternative, an expanded program would be implemented focusing on alternatives that generate global benefits. These include the preparation and implementation of a protection and management plan for the Reserve, a monitoring program, rehabilitation of infrastructure, procurement of equipment and training to enable the newly established Management Authority to protect and sustainable manage the reserve. Ecological and socio-economic monitoring will guide policy decisions on the impacts of subsistence and economic activities on biodiversity and of conservation on the livelihoods of the local population. Awareness raising campaigns and alternative income generating opportunities through ecotourism, also would contribute to the sustainable use of globally significant biodiversity.
