The project will focus on the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in the Talamanca-Caribbean Biological Corridor, an area encompassing five of the twelve life zones of Costa Rica. It will accomplish this through (i) the protection, preservation and restoration of globally significant ecosystems in the corridor; (ii) adopting and applying improved, biodiversity friendly sustainable forest management practices; (iii) development, management and marketing of local and regional sustainable ecotourism products while increasing tourism-based incomes; and (iv) strengthening local and state run organizations/offices through the development of a co-managament model for the protected areas and corridor project.
