Climate Change: A Scientific Assessment for the GEF
The newest STAP report reviews recently published climate science literature and provides a set of important considerations for the GEF’s role in this context.
GEF Guidance on Emerging Chemicals Management Issues in Developing Countries and Countries with Economies in Transition
In the face of rapid globalization and demand for products, increased trade, expansion of manufacturing into Developing Countries and Countries with Economies in Transition (CEIT), new chemicals, uses, or products, along with an increased awareness of real or potential negative impacts of chemicals, the last two decades has also seen the rapid implementation of a number of regional and international agreements regarding chemicals management, which have focused concerns on the need for a globally effective and sustainable chemicals management process. One particular chemicals management response of note, is the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM), which pays particular attention to chemicals, products, uses, releases, or wastes that are currently not under consideration or taken up by existing Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs).
Selection of Persistent Organic Pollutant Disposal Technology for the GEF
This advisory document lays out guidance on the attributes that technologies should demonstrate when GEF funding is involved.
Hypoxia and Nutrient Reduction in the Coastal Zone
This report was inspired by the increasing number of hypoxic zones globally, which have doubled every 10 years over the past five decades.
Marine debris as a global environmental problem
The focus of this document is on land-based sources and types of plastic debris which represent the major debris components in many regions of the world.
Experimental Project Design in the GEF
This advisory document describes one important way in which the GEF can leverage its project investments, to be better informed about what works and under what conditions.
Manual for Calculating GHG Benefits of GEF Transportation Projects
This manual provides the first methodology designed specifically for projects in the transportation sector to develop ex-ante estimations of the GHG impacts of transport projects as accurately as possible.
Advancing Sustainable Low-Carbon Transport through the GEF
This STAP advisory document aims at providing strategic advice on the options for GEF to “Promote energy efficient, low-carbon transport and urban systems”.
The Evidence Base for Community Forest Management as a Mechanism for Supplying Global Environmental Benefits and Improving Local Welfare
This STAP advisory document summarizes the evidence base for the effectiveness of CFM initiatives in generating environmental benefits.
Environmental certification and the GEF
This advisory document summarizes the evidence base for the effectiveness of certification programs in generating environmental benefits.
