New project in West Africa will boost resilience of coastal communities
The West African Coastal Areas (WACA) Resilience Investment Project, funded in part by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), was approved this week by the World Bank Group Board.
The GEF is supporting sustainable development in Togo: testimonials from beneficiaries
While Togo has embarked on an accelerated growth and job promotion strategy, it is not neglecting the importance of sustainably managing its natural resources. Indeed, Togo is party to several multilateral environmental agreements and is making progress implementing these agreements with support from its partners.
As the main source of financing for natural resource management and environmental protection projects and programs in Togo, the GEF is providing substantial technical and financial support to the national sustainable development process.
Western Africa Constituency Meeting 2019
The joint West Africa Constituency Meeting convened GEF Focal and Operational Focal Points from the following counstituencies: a) Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Togo; and b) Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Chad, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Gambia.

The Expanded Constituency Workshops keep the GEF National Focal Points, Convention Focal Points and other key stakeholders, including civil society, up to date on GEF strategies, policies and procedures and encourage coordination. The events enable focal points to meet with their counterparts from other countries in the region. They also allow other GEF partners, especially GEF Agencies, to discuss and review policies and procedures and to share experiences from GEF projects and their integration within national policy frameworks.
