Just Energy Transition in Hard-to-Abate Sectors: Cement, Residential LPG Cooking, and Thermal Energy Uses
The project seeks to accelerate the transition to low-emission systems in three hard-to-abate sectors —the cement industry, LPG-based cooking, and cross-cutting thermal energy uses— through the development of action plans, the adjustment of normative and regulatory frameworks, the implementation of pilot projects, communication and awareness campaigns, and the strengthening of technical capacities. Additionally, gender and social justice aspects will be integrated to ensure an inclusive and just transition.
Integrated management of land and water resources for strengthening climate resilience in flood affected areas of Balochistan, Pakistan
Pakistan faces recurrent climate-induced disasters like floods, with Balochistan Province among the most vulnerable regions due to prevailing poverty, weak governance, and fragile dryland ecosystems. Recurrent flashfloods intensify land degradation, damage already dilapidated flood management infrastructure, and further undermine local livelihoods. Addressing these challenges requires urgent and integrated approach to enhance climate resilience and restore degraded landscapes.
Global decarbonization investment accelerator for the hard to abate sectors
The project drives the decarbonization of cement production in the four pilot countries, through methodologies, technology pathways and financial instruments designed sector-agnostic across cement, iron and steel, and aluminium, so that decarbonization projects become pipelines of investment opportunities.
