Filippo Berardi
An environmental management and international development specialist, Filippo has two decades of experience managing programs relating to climate change, clean energy, carbon finance, and sustainable use of natural capital for private sector and government clients. Filippo leads the Climate Change Focal Area work at the Global Environment Facility, where he oversees a portfolio of active projects above $1 billion.
Filippo joined the GEF from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), where he held a variety of public and private sector roles between 2011 and 2018. At the Multilateral Investment Fund, IDB's private sector innovation lab, Filippo focused on designing programs to support small and medium enterprises to reduce their carbon emissions and exposure to climate risk. Later, with the IDB Climate Change Division, he coordinated the IDB's portfolio of projects co-financed by the Green Climate Fund.
Prior to joining the IDB Group, Filippo worked in the private sector in the United Kingdom, first as Project Manager with EcoSecurities, one of the world's largest developers of carbon offsets projects, and later at J.P. Morgan Investment Bank, where he focused on analysis and management of social and environmental risks. Filippo earned his MSc in environmental technology and policy from Imperial College, London, and has a law degree (with a concentration in international environmental law) from the University of Florence, Italy.
Born and raised in Tuscany, Filippo loves everything about the sea and is an avid sailor, kitesurfer, and diver.
