Tania Eulalia Martinez Cruz

Tania’s work is instrumental in strengthening the Global Environment Facility's engagement with Indigenous Peoples and contributing with her technical expertise across thematic areas. She is an Ëyuujk Indigenous interdisciplinary and action-oriented researcher with extensive experience in the water–food–energy nexus, and a strong record working with Indigenous Peoples worldwide. Guided by a rights-based approach and her technical interdisciplinary expertise, she has worked at international organizations such as FAO, CIMMYT, CIFOR, SIWI, the OHCHR, and along Indigenous led initiatives such as Land is Life, the Coalition on Indigenous Peoples’ Food Systems, the Ărramăt Project, the Indigenous Determinants of Health Network, among others.

Currently, she also serves as an honorary scientific advisor to FAO’s Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems. She holds a BSc in irrigation engineering (Universidad Autónoma Chapingo), an MSc in agricultural and biosystems engineering (University of Arizona), a PhD in social sciences (Wageningen University), and a postdoc in nutrition/public health (University of Greenwich).
