Helping Developing Countries Track Progress on Paris Agreement
The GEF Secretariat held a special event on the Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) during the Bonn Climate Change Conference in May 2016. The CBIT originated as a request from the UNFCCC COP to the GEF at its last meeting in Paris in order to help developing countries in their efforts to build institutional and technical capacity for enhanced transparency.
Second Informal Consultation on Financial Support for Biennial Transparency Reports

Informal Consultation Meeting on Financial Support for Biennial Transparency Reports under the Paris Climate Agreement
The Global Environment Facility held this meeting to discuss support needs, possible modalities, and timing for biennial transparency reports (BTRs) with partners. Participants included government representatives, members from the Consultative Group of Experts (CGE), the UNFCCC Secretariat, and relevant GEF implementing agencies. The experiences of participants in biennial update report (BUR) and national communications (NC) support helped inform the discussion.
Third Informal Consultation on Financial Support for Biennial Transparency Reports

Climate Adaptation Workshop for Francophone Least Developed Countries
The Climate Adaptation Workshop for Francophone Least Developed Countries (LDCs) took place April 24-27, 2023 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Dakar, Senegal. The event brought together francophone LDC operational focal points, national adaptation experts from the LDCs, civil society organizations engaged in adaptation, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change national focal points, GEF agencies, and the GEF Scientific Technical and Advisory Panel. The event was highly inclusive, promoting gender equality and the ‘whole of society’ approach central to the adaptation strategy.
Webinar: GEF Support for Biennial Transparency Reports Financing and Access Modalities
This webinar was aimed at informing developing countries on the access modalities and procedures of the Global Environment Facility and its implementing agencies to apply for funding for the biennial transparency reports (BTRs). The webinar included speakers from UNFCCC, the GEF, UNEP, UNDP, and FAO.
Consultation: GEF Support to the Enhanced Transparency Framework
The Global Environment Facility organized this consultation to respond to CMA 4 guidance on matters related to finance, and to provide an update on the status of the GEF support to Parties for the implementation of the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF). The workshop was designed to enable sharing of information and early lessons between Parties regarding the initial experiences with Biennial Transparency Report (BTR) support and preparation.
