Paul is a natural resources management professional with 15+ years of hands-on experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation, sustainable forestry management, and biodiversity conservation.
A United States national, prior to the GEF he worked as project director for the global development company DAI on two U.S. Agency for International Development funded environment projects in Southeast Asia. Most recently he was the Chief of Party of a $9.4m Bangkok-based climate adaptation project that supported vulnerable rural populations in Lao PDR, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam to strengthen their resilience to climate change impacts, and before this he oversaw a $12m orangutan conservation project that implemented forest conservation and management activities in 3.5 million hectares of critical orangutan habitat in Indonesia. He also served as the Director of The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Indonesia Forests program, where he managed a multiple site portfolio of landscape-level forest management and conservation activities and led TNC’s Alliance to Combat Illegal Logging and Promote Timber Certification in Indonesia project.
