NOTE: The project GEF ID 2456 was merged with the Biodiversity project GEF ID 2101 and submitted as an integrated joint Biodiversity-International Waters project, GEF ID 2101, to the intercessional work program. The request is for $5 million from Biodiversity and $5 million from International Waters. There was no PDF-B requested from International Waters. The project development objective is to improve lives and livelihoods of coastal communities of mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, through implementing participatory and integrated coastal development/economic activities while sustaining coastal resources. It will use an integrated, holistic approach comprising integrated coastal zone management planning, supporting alternative income generation activities supporting biodiversity conservation objectives, and improving market access and enhancing economic potential of coastal resources. Project components include; (a) strengthening of policy and regulatory frameworks; (b) Implementation of participatory integrated Coastal zone Management plans; (c) Market systems and enterprise development, (d) Improved management of marine protected areas; and (e) Monitoring and evaluation.
