The main objective of the project is to develop a comprehensive data flow system (DFS) and indicator model for the purpose of sustainable collection and management of common UNCCD, UNFCCC and UNCBD data at the national level, and to implement this model through a small-scale GIS supported pilot project. The DFS model will be developed in accordance with Environment Information System (EIS) structures and requirements. The need for the establishment of a sustainable and common national data flow system was identified in the GEF/UNEP supported project “National Capacity Needs Self-Assessment for Global Environmental Management” as one of the priority future activities in order to efficiently address global environmental issues in Croatia, namely biological diversity, desertification and climate change. The project will remove key institutional barriers, establish communication and connections between relevant institutions and experts to identify common environmental data and indicators, develop methodologies for data collection, quality assurance/quality control and dissemination, and prevent redundancy in data collection and management. The testing of the DFS model will be performed within a pilot project “Impact of coastal area vegetation fires on greenhouse gas emissions, habitats and land degradation”. The pilot project will allow systematic testing of the DFS model and procedures and perform corrective actions in order to eliminate eventual shortcomings in the establishment of a full-scale data flow system at the national level. The project is a follow-up to the National Capacity Needs Self-Assessment (NCSA) project implemented during 2003-2005. 02/27/08 -
