The PDF will assess the technical, economic and environmental feasibility of promising wind energy technologies; conduct detailed review of barriers to the widespread adoption of wind energy and design a program to overcome them. (1995) A brief was submitted to the GEF for WP inclusion in September 2003 Brief Summary: The project aims at reducing Eritrea's energy related CO2 emissions by promoting both on-grid and off-grid wind energy systems as a substitute for fossil fuel based energy generation. At the same time the project aims at promoting socio-economic development and improving people's livelihood by facilitating access to clean energy services. The project consists of 3 main components: 1. Capacity development and awareness raising; 2. Installation of a grid-connected wind farm (750kW); and 3. Installation of 8 small scale decentralized wind stand alone and wind-diesel hybrid systems.
