The Burundi: Agricultural Rehabilitation and Support Project (PRASAB) - Support for Sustainable Land Management, a blended IDA-GEF project, aims at reducing poverty and improving food security by revitalizing the agricultural sector and strengthening the natural resource base of its production. In this blended operation, GEF funds will supplement IDA financing of the PRASAB and cover the incremental costs of activities associated with the promotion of sustainable land management that is eligible for GEF funding. Burundi faces critical challenges due to the degree of land degradation, soil erosion and threats to its fragile ecosystems, specifically the wetlands and swamps. GEF resources will help in addressing these issues by promoting environmentally friendly land management and agro-ecological systems that aid in restoring soil systems, protecting agro-biodiversity and stemming the rapid loss of wetland ecosystems and related biodiversity.
